I ran across this while looking for something else. The language is so delightfully fresh and arch. Elizabeth Hands–died in 1815, and although the Poetry Foundation does not date the poem, her book was published in 1789–so who knows? Perhaps this was written around the time that the American colonies won independence.
The tea-kettle bubbled, the tea things were set,
